On the day the current duke was born, the butler laid another newborn in the cradle in place of the stillborn child. The moment that child's true bloodline comes to light, the ducal house's legitimacy shatters.
The late duchess's death is recorded as illness, but only the butler knows that something was added to the medicine pot that night. Whether it was mercy or murder, he questions that line within himself for the rest of his life.
For years the butler has been leaking anonymous information to the ducal house's archrival. Only by keeping the balance between the two houses can someone else he must protect survive.
Hidden inside the wall of the butler's study is a second will left by the late duke. If that document surfaces, someone other than the current duke becomes the rightful master of all these lands.
